After 20 years, the intake and cam covers were beginning to lose their factory finish. Portions of the finish were flaking off in places, generally making everything look pretty bad. Aside from the fact that it would be bad for flakes to fall into the intake and pass through the engine, the crumbling intake would distract from all the cleaning I did. Randy Wilson at R&R Raceworks did a great job powder coating all the parts. I went with a "wrinkle red" finish:
